I can't help but notice a bit of irony here, since:

a) The British Empire made no bones about boasting as "the greatest" and did as much as to rule 1/4 of the planet, and

b) America only resulted this way because former Brits were dissatisfied and wanted to create their own Britain-ish country, of sorts. Thus all the "New York" and "New Hampshire" and states like "Georgia" that all still keep a tie to England, but America never bothered to change after becoming independent.

Basically, America's just a mutation of British Empire ego. I think a lot Canadians and Australians likewise forget that, essentially, they too are empire mutants. lol

In any case, interesting narrative here. I appreciate outside views of America like yours. Though, admittedly, as a non-English-descent guy, I just find it funny with Britain-descended folks (both in America and across the pond) forget that, essentially, America's just an extension of the Empire, gone quasi-rogue.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1929695718685636493.post-29904530870339617532012-06-21T12:04:05.396-07:002012-06-21T12:04:05.396-07:00I love Root Beer! Or better, Birch Beer (old fashioned)... in a vanilla ice-cream float.

Also - thin crust pizza.... day-old donuts....

OK - seriously this cracked me up. A nice perspective on our somewhat terrible and tacky culture. Come out to the 'left coast' next time and you can meet the ghosts of the 60s still living in tree houses and insisting upon meditation to the point of militancy.

And to quote our wonderful punk rock frontman of the Dead Kennedy's, Jello Biafra... to be a real patriot is to question everything. I personally shy away from anyone with an American flag or a Jesus fish on their bumper.Marcy Mendelsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1929695718685636493.post-78085628034775679822012-06-21T05:46:06.485-07:002012-06-21T05:46:06.485-07:00I wish the Brits would learn customer service.
